MR. SAPPY
The super awesome Braulio Amado asked me to contribute to his new zine "Mr. Sappy." The guidelines were to create clean-ish line drawings with minimal solid black areas. Draftsmanship is not one of my strong suits but I managed to draw out the above pieces in ink on vellum and then scrape the lines smooth with an exacto.
Also, Here's a better scan of my "Thor" print. These are available right now at Phantom Hand for 25 bucks. I'm also in the process of digging out a ton of old original art for the upcoming "Spring Cleaning" show. All of this stuff will be framed up and available for $50 or less.

MYTH PROCESS PART 4
These pictures kind of suck but I put down the last color on my prints today. I went with a warm grey rather than black, I think it works pretty well. I had some leftover cream paper so I threw that into the mix as well. These will be available this Friday at Phantom Hand's "Mythology" show presented by Anthony "Anthony Pedro" Pedro.
MYTH PROCESS PART 3
I was a little concerned that the films weren't dense enough but to my surprise I was able to burn my screens without a hitch. Tonite, I printed the red and blue layers. Normally I'd print light to dark but because my films were hand drawn I couldn't properly trap the blue layer Hence the red going down first. I burned the blue on 156 count mesh and left the jar I mixed it in open over night to let some of the water evaporate out. I DO NOT recommend this method because you'll be fighting the ink drying in your stencil but I've done this a few times and lucked out. The blue ended up covering on top the red really nicely. In past I've even been able to get bright light on dark prints without an underbase this way. The humidity in my basement warped the shit out of the paper so I'll be putting some heavy weights on top the stack overnight to try and have these flat enough to finish tomorrow.

MYTH PROCESS PART 2
After taking another look at my color comp I threw the yellow paper I'm using into the background and changed everything else completely. I think this pops a lot more now. To start my films I blew up and tiled my sketch together for the black and red layers. I overlayed acetate film on my sketches and went at the line work with india ink and a brush and a fine line pen for some of the tight details. After getting the bulk of it down I went back in with an xacto to add some highlights and tighten up some spots. For the red layer I used some torn black construction paper to add a little texture and then filled out the rest with ink and a brush. It's been a few years since I've created films this way and I had forgotten how difficult it is to get dense blacks at times. Off to burn my screens.

FORGOTTEN GODS
In an attempt to reduce my time in front of the computer, I'm drawing my print for PH's upcoming Mythology show direct to film. Up top is my rough color sketch. Next I'll be blowing up the line art and slopping out the 3 color layers on acetate. Check back for pictures in the next few days as the piece comes together. Still not 100% on those colors.
